Third-Grade Teachers Organize Successful Fundraising Effort
The Webster School third-grade teaching team has successfully organized a Scholastic Classroom Campaign to raise funds to purchase books for each of the school’s 50 third graders.
“It was very humbling to see so many of our family and friends respond to our fundraising efforts,” said teacher Jessica Pelletier, who led the effort with her colleagues Devon Abruzzese, Danae Cardello, and special education teacher Shaelyn Paolucci.
“During this unprecedented school year, there is so much good that can come from eEducation — so many wonderful online programs and digital curriculum resources that our students are utilizing and enjoying — but we couldn't bear the thought that some of our most vulnerable students could go months without turning the pages of a book.”
The students will receive 10 books during the 2020-21 school year. The first distribution took place on Wednesday, October 7, where Ms. Pelletier, Ms. Abruzzese, and Ms. Cardello presented copies of “Upside Down Magic” and “Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea” to their third graders. The students also received a ruler.
“When reading together in the classroom library is not possible, this is definitely the next best thing!” Ms. Pelletier said. “We strongly believe that inspiring a love of reading among our students is more important now than ever before.”
The event on October 7 also gave the third-grade teaching team the chance to see their students in a safe and positive environment.
Great job, Webster School!
